<p>Ember Creek is the restaurant that changed Abuja's dining scene. Opened in 2018 on the banks of the Gudu Creek, the restaurant brought an entirely new energy to the capital's food culture: a sophisticated open-air barbecue destination that celebrated fire, smoke, and the primal pleasure of expertly cooked meat — Nigerian, continental, and everything in between.</p><p>The centrepiece of the kitchen is an enormous custom-built Argentinian asado grill and a pair of offset smokers where beef brisket, Nigerian suya, lamb ribs, jerk chicken, and whole fish are transformed over low heat for up to 18 hours. The signature Ember Creek Platter — a sharing board of six smoked and grilled proteins with house-made accompaniments — is the dish that put the restaurant on Abuja's map and keeps regulars returning weekly.</p><p>The menu extends far beyond the grill: Nigerian starters including peppered snail, bush meat suya, and crispy yam chips with hot sauce; heartier Nigerian mains like Abuja-style banga soup and egusi with pounded yam; and an international section featuring wood-roasted chicken, BBQ lamb shoulder, and flame-grilled sea bass. Desserts are unapologetically indulgent: house-churned ice cream, grilled plantain with salted caramel, and chin-chin cheesecake.</p><p>The setting is as memorable as the food: wooden decking over the creek, twinkle lights strung through mango trees, live Afrojuju music on Thursday and Saturday evenings, and a cocktail bar that has pioneered the use of Nigerian spirits — burukutu, ogogoro-based infusions, and hibiscus flower distillates — in its craft cocktail programme.</p>
