Tour Plan
Fly to Calabar and transfer by road to the Obudu Plateau (approx. 3 hrs). The ascent by cable car or the mountain road with hairpin bends is itself a highlight. Check in to your chalet, enjoy a welcome dinner of plateau-grown vegetables and fresh-caught tilapia by the fireplace, and acclimatise to the altitude and cool air.
Morning yoga on the escarpment as mist rolls in from Cameroon. After breakfast, take the cable car across the valley — the views are extraordinary. Spend the afternoon on a guided 8 km plateau hike, passing through highland meadows, exposed ridgelines, and natural springs, with your guide identifying endemic plants and calling out bird species. Campfire dinner and ranger talk on Cross River primate conservation.
Early start for chimpanzee tracking in the Becheve Reserve with a specialist primate guide. The experience requires patience and quiet movement through secondary forest — when contact is made, the reward is extraordinary. Return for lunch and a 60-minute spa treatment using locally harvested mountain herbs. Afternoon free for swimming in the plateau pool, reading by the fire, or exploring the farm.
Morning tour of the organic farm that supplies the resort — meet the farmers, learn about altitude agriculture, and harvest your own ingredients. A cooking demonstration with the head chef follows, creating a traditional Cross River dish. Afternoon gentle forest walk to a natural waterfall for a refreshing dip. Star-gazing experience after dinner on the escarpment — the plateau's altitude and remoteness provide extraordinary views of the Milky Way.
Final morning yoga, a farewell breakfast, and checkout. Descend by cable car or road, then transfer to Calabar Airport for your return flight to Lagos. Take home a bag of Obudu coffee beans — grown on the plateau and roasted on-site — and memories of Nigeria's most remarkable highland landscape.
